The AGM of local youth counselling charity Time to Talk West Berkshire took place on Wednesday 14th June at Broadway House.
Guests, Counsellors and Trustees were welcomed by the acting chair Katrina Harvey who announced the retirement of Janice Powell from the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees and the appointment of Lesley Boler as the new chair.
Two guest speakers then talked about the current provision of services in West Berkshire.
Andrea King, Head of Prevention and Safeguarding West Berkshire Council, updated the meeting on the significant work undertaken by the Emotional Health Academy, a model which is now getting national recognition.
Chinyere Braun, Senior Emotional Health Worker and Emotional Health Academy Co-ordinator then spoke of the work of the Multi-agency Emotional Health Triage and the pivotal role that Time to Talk West Berkshire plays
Time to Talk’s Clinical Lead, Davina Nicholson, then took the floor and spoke about her passion for the work her team of counsellors and supervisors undertake for the young people in the area. She listed this year’s headline achievements:
• 3250 sessions delivered
• 73% of young people completed their planned course of counselling
• Time to Talk now has a team of 28 volunteer counsellors
• In 2017 Saturday morning sessions were made available
• The outreach programme was expanded to the Kintbury and Woolton Hill surgery
• Engaging with the students of Newbury College
• Working as a team with the EHA and other local agencies and organisations
Throughout the meeting the speakers referred to comments from young people who had received help and Davina finished with a quote from one parent whose daughter had received counselling from Time to Talk:
“I just wanted to say a big thank you for your support last year in counselling my daughter.
We are a year on from her last counselling session and I am pleased to say that she is coping well at school and with life in general.
More than that, she’s confident and happy. We are indebted to you for the support you gave and the invaluable service you provide.
Keep up the excellent work and know that it’s very much appreciated.
We are genuinely grateful for the counselling. It made a dramatic impact on all our lives. It’s hard now to recall how different things were a year ago.
Thank you again to your wonderful team.”
